  • Taught entire curriculum to 100+ students in five sections of 9th and 10th grade Latin: Honors 1B, Regular 2, and Honors 2.
  • Planned and taught daily lessons in various units, including noun-adjective agreement, ablative prepositions, relative pronouns, vocabulary and derivatives, positive and superlative adjectives, formation of adverbs, imperfect subjunctive, purpose clauses, and uses of ut.
  • Wrote formative and summative assessments, analyzed student data, reflected on own teaching methods, collaborated with master teachers to develop best practices, and adjusted teaching practices to ensure student comprehension.
  • Used humor and technology in creating visual and audio representations of story characters, which intensified student engagement and motivation to learn the material (30 out of 39 students improved from previous exam).
  • Took leadership role in homeroom service projects, including canned goods drive and holiday toy drive.
  • Co-supervised North Allegheny’s chapter of Junior Classical League (JCL), which is the national organization of high school Latin students sponsored by the American Classical League.
  • Will chaperone 80 North Allegheny JCL students on 3-day trip to Pennsylvania State JCL Convention in May 2009.  (North Allegheny JCL has won the state championship 11 consecutive years, 1998-2008)

  • Taught entire curriculum to 80+ students in five sections of 7th and 8th grade Latin: Exploratory and Latin 1A.
  • Designed daily lesson plans for students with diverse learning styles and various ability levels.
  • Collaborated with district learning specialists to create adapted materials and methods for learners with unique needs (8 students with I.E.P.s, 35 students with G.I.E.P.s).
  • Empowered students with low test scores: created and implemented pretest/posttest self-evaluation survey, assisted students in designing own study plans, facilitated personal goal-setting, held one-on-one and small group tutoring sessions, and celebrated students who reached their goals.  7 out of 7 students improved.
  • Fostered excitement for Latin, enthusiastically introduced the basics of language and grammar, and counseled 7th graders on choosing a world language for study in their 8th grade year.
  • Integrated study skills, note-taking, and metacognition lessons with daily subject curriculum.
  • Took leadership role in bi-monthly school spirit Fridays, sporting school colors and helping students dress up before homeroom.
  • Co-supervised North Allegheny JCL summer meetings, fall kickoff, induction ceremony, and activity fair; Helped promote and grow membership.
